Our mission at Family Dog Obedience & Training is to help owners and their dogs build a solid bridge of communication, and lay a strong foundation of obedience training. We strive to help you develop a strong relationship with your dog built on love, trust, and advocacy.
My name is Abby Taylor. I am the Owner and Head Trainer of Family Dog Obedience and Training. The love I had for dogs when I was young turned into the passion that drives my career today. Through this love, I developed a curiosity of how the mind of a dog worked, and what drove their behavior. I wanted to learn how to talk to them but most importantly how to understand their communication. Growing up I saw others have a one-way communication with their dog. They wanted their dog to understand them but made no effort to make it a two-way communication system. I wanted to be different. So, I set out to do just that. Frist, I attended Animal Behavioral college and received my certification through their education and mentorship program. With the help of my first mentor, Jerry Hope, I gained a ton of knowledge and experience with a variety of dog breeds, ages, and behaviors. That was only the beginning. From there I went on to participate and complete many different education programs to contribute to my knowledge of Obedience, Behavior Modification and Service Dog train.
I specialize in Puppy Development, Pet Dog Training, Behavior Modification, and Service Dog Training. I am an expert on K9 body language and behavior. I am also a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and educator.
To meet the ongoing needs of my community I actively participate in continuing my education and professional development. Currently I am working for and mentoring under Dawn Scott, with Errorless Service Dogs, LLC, located in Colorado. YES, I successfully run my own company and work as the Southeast Trainer for another company. We work hard to provide every owner we can with the help they need.
At Family dog we believe every dog is different, and every family is different. We are NOT a "one size fits all" training program. We take the time to evaluate your dog and listen to your goals that you have to develop a training plan that sets both you and your dog up for success. Family Dog believes that communication is two-way street that we want to help build between you and your dog. We believe in not only training your dog but educating you as the owner on the following:
• Your dog's breed and what it means to own that breed.
• How to take PROACTIVE steps to help prevent unwanted behaviors.
• How to EFFECTIVELY communicate with your dog.
• How to EFFECTIVELY understand your dog's communication.
• How to ADVOCATE for your dog.
• How to meet your dog in the middle.
• How to build a STRONG and POSITIVE relationship with your dog.
We also believe that the relationship between trainer and owner is one that should continue even after training programs are completed. We want to see you and your dog continuing to progress and succeed! This is why we say, “Welcome to the pack!” when you sign on. Because to us you are not just a client, you and your pup are a valued member of the pack. We make sure you know that we are always available for updates and questions! We also aim to build a community of people who are committed to their dog’s training. A community that helps support each other through all their training journeys.
We encourage you to check out the many different training program and options we have available. Give us a call if you have any questions and/or need more in-depth details. Thank you so much for your time. And we look forward to hearing from you!
Abby has done such wonderful things for my dachshund and myself. Our dog Maddux was a horrible puppy. He creid all day and night, chewed absolutely everything, and was impossible to potty train. I was on the verge of rehoming him. I met Abby at work and asked for her help. Within one day I saw a drastic change. It was AMAZING. After completing training, Abby became our full time dog walker. She was reliable/flexable, communicated well, and most importantly affordable. Maddux loved Abby so much. 10/10 recommend!
We recently hired Abby at Family Dog to train our rescue dog, Huck, and we had the best experience. We rescued Huck and he had zero prior training. He is 85 lbs so it was important for us that he receive training. We had never done a board and train program before with our other dogs and now we feel like we couldn’t live without one. We signed up for the 2.5 week board and train and we are so satisfied with our results. Abby was able to take our unruly dog and turn him into a very well-mannered one. The entire time he was at training, Abby kept us updated on his progress with constant texts and videos so we could see how he was doing each day. We were very impressed by how knowledgable Abby is and by how much she loves what she does. We felt so comfortable leaving Huck with her and it was very evident he was getting so much love and attention during his 2.5 weeks. Abby even went above and beyond and made us personalized videos explaining how to continue to work on the skills Huck learned. We went from being unable to walk Huck, to now finally enjoying our walks with him. We were blown away by the changes she was able to make. She also helped educate us on his breed which helped us understand him better. We also loved that our board and train came with multiple follow up lessons which has helped us continue to advance his skills, and also make sure we are doing everything right to help keep Huck successful. We highly recommend Abby and couldn’t be more pleased with our experience!
I could not have asked for a better experience for my dog Poppy. In addition to laying the foundation during the initial board and train, Abby has also followed up to ensure I have the proper tools and am trained to implement them. This has allowed for continued progression in Poppy’s (and my) skills. I appreciate the additional training sessions and check ins. It is clear Abby is passionate about helping others and is a wealth of great information. Poppy loves her session days!
"Abby has been GREAT to work with! We did a 2-week board & train and could see the progress with our little pup. Abby has also been in constant contact with us to ensure great training results. We are very happy to have trusted Abby with our fur baby."
"Abby was so helpful and knowledgeable. My dog really responded to her training methods and she gave me tons of tips for other behaviors we've been having issues with! She was very responsive, professional, and easy to work with. We will definitely have her back if any new unwelcome behaviors arise and I would recommend her to anyone!"
"My dog Kano is a 7 month old Doberman with zero training and full of energy. He did a 2 week board and train. Upon return he was night and day different and responded to all commands including crate training. I also received daily reports on his progress and videos. I would recommend to anyone. Very professional and experienced. Amazing Job!"
